Alice Muller
Acting National Leader – Auditor General

Alice Muller is now the acting national leader: Audit at the AGSA, but her beginnings were in Welkom where she went to school.

She went on to complete her studies at North-West University and then joined Deloitte where she completed her articles to qualify as a chartered accountant. After seven years at the company, where she worked as an audit manager responsible for audits in the mining industry, she then joined a small firm called Odendaal and Marais in 1998, where she was responsible for a portfolio of audit clients. She joined the AGSA in 2000, which means she’s been with the office for almost 20 years now. She came in as a manager and after a year was promoted to senior manager, and then to business executive. Thereafter she was appointed corporate executive, a position she has occupied in the past 11 years.

Muller’s job includes providing direction and the overall management of the total audit portfolio within the AGSA. Muller says that she gets energised by the continued difference that the organisation is making in the country and how change happens one conversation or decision at a time and she lives by the motto no matter what. A career highlight for her is the opportunity to act as the national leader which is currently providing her with the opportunity to champion the overall Audit process within the AGSA. She is also responsible for the system of audit quality within the organisation and also oversee the audit research and development business unit.

She is also the project leader on the amended mandate of the AGSA and has to ensure that both the internal and external environments are prepared for the implementation of these amendments.

These powers came into effect on 1 April 2019 which implies that a lot of activities had to be completed in a very short period. She also does a lot of public speaking for both civil society organisations and government departments about the importance of good leadership and governance. The more recent engagements focussed a lot on the amended mandate of the AGSA and she enjoys spending  time with different audiences to empower them insights and knowledge.

Muller is a strong believer in passion as the driving force for good in one’s life and those of others.

If you find your passion, life is easier. It’s easier to wake up in the morning and go about the business of serving those less fortunate than you. Don’t settle for anything less than your passion.
